Mayor Runfeldt's COVID-19 Update - December 31, 2020Vaccines to protect against COVID-19 have started to arrive in New Jersey in limited quantities.
The first recipients have been hospitals and nursing homes, otherwise called long term care facilities (LTCFs). They are currently administering vaccines to their front-line staff starting with those who have the greatest risk of exposure to the coronavirus. Certain CVS and Walgreens pharmacies around the state have started vaccinating LTCF staff and their residents this week. ShopRites, including ours here in Lincoln Park, have likewise started to vaccinate group 1A healthcare workers as well. Please do not visit these locations at this time expecting to be able to get the vaccination as they are ONLY administering to group 1A. All vaccine sites will be set up by appointment only. When your phase of vaccination is open, you can go anywhere in and out of the state to get vaccinated, as these are federal vaccines.
This first phase of vaccination — for Priority Group 1A — likely will last through February. The timing of the state’s progress through subsequent phases — 1B, 1C, 2 and 3 — depends on the supply of vaccines to New Jersey. Information about the COVID-19 vaccination, changes almost daily. The state has set up a comprehensive “vaccine information hub” at https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/vaccine for news regarding the vaccine, registration information, phases, timelines and locations.
