Last spring was tremendously affected by COVID and the resultant restrictions, prohibitions and quarantines. One thing that was lost last spring was the formal introduction and commencement of the usage of our newly installed turf field. Although it was used in accordance with health department recommendations last year, it has seen a tremendous increase in use so far this spring. The turf fields and all other fields/parks in the town are Borough Fields which means they ultimately belong to the residents. Rules and policies are put in place not only to protect the fields but also everyone that uses them. The intent of these rules and regulations is to preserve the quality of all of our facilities and the integrity of the synthetic turf field site for the enjoyment, safety and well-being of all. The Borough Ordinances outline the intended use of the fields and lists activities and other items that are prohibited. Please note that there are consequences in the form of fines or possible removal from the fields with suspension of future use if the articles of the Code Book are violated.

APRIL IS NATIONAL DISTRACTED DRIVER MONTHThough traffic has dropped significantly since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our roads have gotten more dangerous. The most startling distracted driving statistics for 2020:- 21% of teen drivers involved in a car accident were distracted by cell phones.
- Texting or reading a text takes a driver’s eyes off the road for at least 5 seconds.
- Men are 4 times more likely to drink and drive, while women are more likely to text and drive.
- Reaching for an object increases the chances of a car crash by 8 times according to the more alarming distracted driving statistics.
- Once a driver has been distracted, it takes only 3 seconds for a car crash to occur.
- In the United States, about 9 people are killed every day due to car crashes involving a distracted driver.
Now is a good time to regroup and take responsibility for the choices we make when we’re on the road.- Need to send a text? Pull over and park your car in a safe location.
- Designate a passenger as “designated texter.” Allow them to respond to calls or messages.
- Struggling to not text and drive? Put the cell phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat of the vehicle
