The following information was just received from NJDEP..."With the anticipation of 1 to 1.5 inches of rain this evening, current forecast is for the gates at the dam in Pompton Lakes to open around 2 AM tonight. Flood predictions on the Ramapo and Pompton Rivers stay below Flood Stage, however, the Passaic River at Pine Brook is predicted to reach near moderate flooding."
The openings typically happen gradually at 6 inch increments. As the info from DEP states, they do not anticipate flooding in this area. However, past experience and changing weather conditions make it important to be proactive. We recommend that anyone in low lying areas, such as the few effected this past Sunday, take precautions to protect property such as moving automobiles to higher ground.
We will update as necessary.
