A REAL “BLOOD HOUND”
Stumpy the Labrador was bred to help blind humans with day-to-day life, but when a deformed leg prevented him from becoming a guide dog, his owner found an alternative way for him to help others.
He became a dog blood donor and he has saved the lives of up to 120 other dogs over the years. Stumpy’s owner Elly Pittaway said she was delighted he was able to help so many others and said ‘Stumpy obviously has no idea why he’s doing it , but I love to think he does and I’m sure he’d be very proud of himself.’
Stumpy gets plenty of treats and praise throughout the donation process. He looks forward to it. ‘He pulls me into the room because he knows that he’ll just get biscuits all the way through.’
Stumpy began donating blood at age one and has donated around three to four times a year ever since. He has a negative blood type, which means that his blood can be given to any dog in an emergency.

The easiest way to get there is to park between Lord & Taylor and Sears. Use the Food District entrance near Blaze Pizza.
How It Works: Each month, join us for a fun walk with a doctor from the Chilton Medical Center community. For the first few minutes, the doctor will give a brief presentation on an important health topic. Then, for the remainder of the hour, participants will go for a walk together. The doctor will walk with you too!
