Forever & “Furever” Homes
14 year old Meena Kumarhas has raised $14,000 to help senior dogs find forever homes, just like she did when she was adopted. At 9 months old Meena was found abandoned at a college campus. After living in an orphanage she was adopted and brought to California. When she came to the US, almost every weekend included a trip to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. Meena first heard of Muttville Senior Dog Rescue from a neighbor who adopted a dog from the rescue. The neighbor shared stories of how senior dogs are often left behind in shelters. The rescue gives senior dogs a “second chance at life,” and rescues about 1,000 dogs per year. Since she was to young too volunteer, Meena began pet sitting for her neighbors and school friends with the goal of supporting Muttville. “More people should adopt senior dogs,” she says “They give you the same unconditional love as any other dog.”

See Through Masks :) Smile
Dr. Brian Travers, a former doctor who lost his hearing in 2002, started sewing the masks with clear panels after he struggled to communicate with people in masks. He relied on lip reading and masks meant he no longer understood people around him. Travers suspected that other deaf and hard of hearing people had similar experiences. “The mask is required. But it is a barrier,” Travers said. So he examined the masks he made since learning to sew in March. Soon, he designed a prototype with an opening covered by clear plastic. “How great is life when there are no barriers? A smile is the greatest way to introduce yourself,” he said. “All these times we may have taken for granted interacting with other people.”

The easiest way to get there is to park between Lord & Taylor and Sears. Use the Food District entrance near Blaze Pizza.
How It Works: Each month, join us for a fun walk with a doctor from the Chilton Medical Center community. For the first few minutes, the doctor will give a brief presentation on an important health topic. Then, for the remainder of the hour, participants will go for a walk together. The doctor will walk with you too!
Call for preregistration.
